Only six months ago, I authored the piece “In Defense Of: Iggy Azalea,” arguing that even through this boundless tumult, her discography presented a surprisingly wide breadth of sonic influences that could reignite her prominence. Even through this tarnished public image, Azalea continued releasing music (even if marred by frequent setbacks and cancelations), that still embodied the promising start of her career. But this record-breaking momentum crumbled even more rapidly than it began, as Azalea’s racially insensitive sentiments, arrogance, and pettiness decisively crushed her credibility. Her ferocious pop-rap debut, “Fancy,” and subsequent singles started an avalanche of potential, clearing the path for a long and fruitful career. Iggy Azalea was once heralded as a premiér female rap talent.
